Backyard - Plants

I thought I would throw out this thought:  In plants, many exude defensive chemicals which inhibit the growth of other plants of different species around them.  These allelopathic chemicals work to provide the host plant with room to grow, and defend from invaders which may do ill to them.

Do we have spiritual allelopathic methods?  Are they conscious actions/techniques that we perform to keep safe?  And by we, i mean EVERY human being.  Christian, Atheist, Pagan, and in between.  This question is one of spiritual dynamics, and not of personal belief systems.

What happens if our allelopathic spiritual system malfunctions?  Does it ever do more harm than good for us?

Can we influence our allelopathic spiritual system?

Curious thoughts.

Well, I can't say for certain that EVERY human being has spiritual allelopathic
methods. I can't say for certain that every human ANYTHING. It does seem to me
to be a COMMON thing, however. I mean, we can look at the history of
Christianity and see things like the Inquisition, which not only inhibited the
GROWTH of other religions, but blatantly attempted to stamp them out. The
Crusades were, I think, also allelopathic. But Christians would not be the only
group guilty, I mean, in the Middle East right now, I'd say the Israeli Jews and
the Palestinian Muslims are engaging in very mutually allelopathic activities.
Atheist could be said to have their own kind of allelopathic affect by
attempting to keep ALL religion out of public buildings, out of education, out
of scientific discussion . . .

As for Pagans, I think a lot of disgruntled
pagans have allelopathic ATTITUDES towards the other religions, especially
Christi...

Since my spiritual path is pretty much aligned with my interest in human
physiology and our interactions with the rest of the living systems around us, I
believe something like this:
Plant allelopathy involves some complex chemical
interactions that influence the plant's environment; inhibiting some conditions
and promoting others. The complexity of the science is certainly well beyond
me, so I tend to percieve it all in a folk-magick sort of way. I personify my
blueberries, and imagine that they "like" nestling in a bed of
decomposing pine bark and oak leaves. I figure those blueberries will then
produce little happy chemicals that I may absorb when I eat them (the
antioxidant blue pigment maybe?) The cell membranes of my digestive tract and
nervous system might use these antioxidants to stay in good working order, so
that I can effectively produce and use serotonin (think happy thoughts!) in my
interactions w...
